  Odor Control

SD1 operates three major and several smaller wastewater treatment plants. Wastewater from thousands of local homes, businesses and commercial buildings flow here for treatment. In fact, we clean and release about 32 million gallons of water every day (MGD). Each treatment facility is unique and helps provide our community with cleaner and safer waterways.

Dry Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant
2999 Amsterdam Rd | Villa Hills, KY 41017 | 859-574-1673

This is our largest wastewater treatment facility. It began operation in 1979 and cleans water from Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties. From beginning to end, it takes about 16 hours to clean incoming water.

Eastern Regional Water Reclamation Facility
8800 East Main St | Alexandria, KY | 859-331-6674

Operational in 2007, Eastern incorporates state-of-the-art wastewater treatment and odor control technologies. Instead of using chlorine, ultraviolet light disinfects water before release and innovative biofilters help control odor. Eastern Regional is the smallest of SD1’s three major treatment plants.

Western Regional Water Reclamation Facility
5459 Belleview Rd | Petersburg, KY 41080 | 859-331-6674

Western Regional is SD1’s newest wastewater treatment facility. Operational in 2012, Western cleans water from most of Boone County and portions of Kenton County, alleviating demand from Dry Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant. Western uses ultraviolet light to disinfect water before release and odor biofilter technology to help control odors. It takes about 27 hours for wastewater to go through the treatment process at Western Regional.
