Meet Chris Rabe, the Purchasing and Inventory Specialist at SD1. Chris began at SD1 in 1999 and is responsible for ordering and organizing all of the materials SD1's field crews need to do their job, from plumbing pipe to camera parts.
When did you start at SD1 and how has your role changed since?
I started at SD1 on March 8, 1999. I began working on a camera truck, but soon after SD1 developed a need for somebody to manage the Collection Systems inventory. I had experience working with several different drug store chains, ordering all the stuff in the front of the stores, so I transitioned into that role.
How would you describe your role as a Purchasing and Inventory Specialist?
My role is to order all the materials for the crews in the field to ensure we have enough equipment to make sure they can do their job- whether they need plumbing pipe, camera parts, electrical or tech parts. I also manage the unloading, receiving, and organizing of the materials.
What is your typical day like?
A typical day would be logging out tools and supplies to the crew members, and then logging the stuff in and out of inventory. I check my logs, gather price quotes and develop contracts with our Purchasing department to get the best price on materials.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I like to hunt, fish and be outdoors as much as possible. I also enjoy helping keep the environment clean.
What’s your favorite part of working at SD1?
The people I work with. Everybody knows what the goal is and that it’s like a giant puzzle- it takes all of us to make it work. I think the great thing is we all recognize that and we work together through good times and bad because we know the work has to get done.
When Chris isn’t managing the Collection Systems inventory, you might also find him rescuing animals on SD1 property. During his tenure, he has rescued two hummingbirds and a baby fawn.
